Uh, I have a really chilling theory here, that the princess actually died in the womb, but her grandma learnt some forbidden spell to let her soul enter the dead body and keep it growing to meet the brave on day in the future?
I.e: when Princess is moving, grandma becomes soulless corpse, and vice versa
