Ever since they said that Ys was run by the church, i was wondering what kind of church it was. In most of the manga i’ve read or watched, the church in the story is based on the Catholic church, in organization, archtechture and the activities they engage in.
But whether the church is good or if it’s like the real life Catholic church seems to depend on whether the god(s) of the world oversee it. If they don’t appear to be involved then the church is very much a villainous organization masquerading as a good one, just like the Catholic church IRL. Which is why we see the Pope of the Church of Ys literally raping a young girl here; they’re going the IRL Catholic church route. Makes me wonder what Shin will do if he finds out about this.
