Why not just say his phone was among the belongings but, it broke upon the impact and he hasn’t gotten it fixed. He could also get a decoy phone with the same case, have it be broken, and show that off.
The MC should know that the advisor is occupied watching him, as long as he’s in his house, then he shouldn’t make any moves. Just wait it out, because even if he did call his division to save the executive, they probably wouldn’t be able to catch him in time, if the advisor decided to move before then.
