Li Shi’s treatise on governance is kinda trash. Any state taking his advice is doomed.
One chapter just has “if everybody farms, the nation will be strong”, which is plainly bs. Not only is it bs, he keeps repeating it like a mantra, like he’s out of ideas.
His other ideas are about the same level of silly: “tax the farmers so that none become rich; prevent dissemination of literature/learning so that no one is distracted by imagination or ambition; such that everybody farms and the country grows strong.”
There is a reason Legalism was not widespread and had no great traction: it was monomanic lunacy suitable only for clever despots needing some kind of philosophic legitimacy.
