Kingdom - Chapter 819
Comments for chapter "Chapter 819"
Like the City, he needs a high-ranking beloved individual to lead their people into cooperation. If King of Qin has any sense, he would marry this young lass and thus give Han a stake/bloodline in the current ruling class. It would have the authenticity of unity they would need and meld the fate of the two nations into one.
as a reader who knows many of the future events, as well as various considerations when making each decision, Han’s surrender is but a matter of course.
In some wars back then, the soldiers sacrificed their whole army just to let the ‘citizen’ run away to keep the country’s tourch, which eventually proved a futile effort.
in the end, the sacrifice was in vain, the country was destroyed, and the people were integrated into the new dynasty/country. the era moved on.
but imagining the participant itself, the princess/prince is told like that by the enemy general, despite knowing what the soldiers did, the people’s loyalty to stand together with their country, and the futility of fighting against the inevitable outcome.
that’s harsh. I couldn’t imagine how tremendous the psychological burden they carried.
just the guilt itself would be horrifying.

I have been reading this moderately for a couple of months and have now caught up. I am sad now.
