Like at first their friendship was cute, Sei ending up being reassured, comforted, and scolded by Shin when he would stop by (of his own accord), Sei enjoying Shin’s ramblings about the tales of his conquest but being to proud to admit he enjoys their chats and instead acts like it’s annoying, Sei and Shin finally openly being friends during and after the Sai invasion.

Now Sei is soo desperate to see Shin before the war against Zhao he wanted to travel to Shintei just to see him and talk with him, ordering his servants to look for Shin and bring him to his palace so they can talk like they would used to, allowing Shin to see the inners of the royal family, watch his consorts give birth to his child, and even eat dinner with them as a family. This doesn’t sound bad but it’s a bit controlling or obsessive since he is the king Shin can’t just leave and has to stay and keep him company at the expense of Shins time-off with his friends outside of Sei.

The power imbalance makes it uncomfortable now. If Sei is becoming more insistent on Shin being part of his private life and family, I see the friction this would create for Shin as the blatant favouritism by the king will be evident and put on full display.

Like how many of you dudes would call to meet up with your best friend, then you find out that your wife is in labour and instead of ending the hangout you allow your best friend to join you in the operation room as your wife gives birth to your son and then spend the rest of the day with your family and best friend? Most people would not allow for this level of intimacy even with their own siblings.
