I’m a half-professional babysitter and I noticed that a lot of people don’t really know how to approach a lost child, and can make mistakes similar to shown in this chapter.
I think this might be important, so I will leave an instruction here:
(remember, your first priority is to prevent the kid from being kidnapped)
0.Analyze, is the child really lost? Ask the kid if you can. If you conclude that the child is not lost, but you’re still worried, you can stay nearby to ensure its safety.
If you find a lost child in a public place, and you are not sure in your abilities in talking with rhem:
1. Try to find a parent with kids that don’t look busy and ask them for help – say that you are not sure in your nanny abilities, and that you want to help the child find it’s parents. If they agree to help, find nearest security guard, checkpoint, even janitor will work, and tell them about the situation.
2. If you fail at following the first variant, and/or the security guard or checkpoint is nearby – directly tell them about the lost child, if you need to walk a distance far enough to lose the sight of the child – don’t do it, you leave the kid in potential danger that way.
3. If the previous two variants aren’t possible, then stay near the kid, and try to ask someone trusty looking to call a security guard to your location, because you have found a lost child.
4. If, for some reason, the third variant fails, and you are totally sure that you can’t get the kid to trust you – stay near them as much as you can, if you think that you don’t have time – find a security guard by yourself, explain them the situation, and lead them to the place.
If you are sure in your abilities in talking to children, simply talk to them and ask them to follow you to find their parents, after which go to the security (I think in this case it’s pretty obvious)
If not in a public place – call the police and explain the situation
