A bit of an airhead, I know you want to prove your value, but if you bet your body (and probably your dignity as a person) on the line of play, you could really say that your value is null.
And come on, the typical cliché that will allow the protagonist to skip a space of 40 chapters

They would be so screwed if MC’s plot armor wouldn’t kick in at some point.
I mean, they are barely strong enough to fight on level 5, let alone a boss of level 5, not to speak the first guardian on level 10, but they now face the level 20 guardian. No chance they would survive that without plot armor.
