I want to say somthing because of 3 reasons
1: i know how mutch mental damage will be caused if you don’t die quickly in the game.
2: becaus he is a shitty father.
3: the same as the reason number 2 but make it 10 times

MC is the most pathetic human you’ve ever seen but he’s still a person, he rationalizes himself as always being in the right because he’s suffered and been used his whole life and now wants to indulge in pleasure for a change. He assumes everyone has a better life than him so he can play the victim and feel justified for his actions, he’s pathetic and he knows it. However the moment he realizes that Catherine actually has a worse life than even he does (because he’s never had an abusive parent), it activates his moral compass for the first time in his life and causes him to actually stand up for her
