This reminds me of an alchemy story on RoyalRoad where there’s a bunch of these millennium flames (MC has Soul Flame from some ghost attached to him) but alchemists can obtain multiples of these flames and make combo flames like Kirby power ups.
I wish I could remember the story and go back to see if it finished (I was last reading it several years ago). But if you really REALLY like alchemy based stories, it’s freaking amazing. You’ll know it’s the right story if the MC onherits a ring with some ghost possessing like the bone chilling ghost flame or something and immediately causes problems with the sword sect even though he’s from a third rate sect.
He also runs into the current “living” top alchemist later on.
But the story is great. They get really into ingredients and even cauldron designs and “levels” and attributes (like a cauldron made a particular way that it’s really good for poison but can’t make healing).
