Assuming it is true that his driving intent was dissatisfaction with the king’s softness, being foiled here would satisfy the minister’s desire for strong leadership.
If this is true, then it would be a refreshing change of pace to see a capable antagonist fold after being bested, and could be favorably seen as him roping together corrupted leadership to either reform a weak ruling core or be bested by a greater one.
