For those curious about the tiara: In Journey to the West, a Buddhist monk named Tang Sanzang places this crown onto the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. In the original myth, Sun Wukong is incredibly powerful but wild, violent, and unmanageable. To help control him, the Goddess Guanyin gives the monk a magical golden headband. Once slipped onto the Monkey King’s head, it shrinks and binds tightly whenever Sanzang chants the “Tightening Control Mantra” (or Headache Sutra), causing Wukong excruciating pain and forcing him to behave.
