IF you ask why they are not going down since they have the ability to fly back up… that cliff has a depth of more than 5 Km, possibly even 10 (it was mentioned in the novel that at a certain point they had already fallen over 5 Km, but not how much distance was left until the ground).
Since their realm is the lowest that allows them to fly, even if they are arond the 3rd 4th layer, it would be quite costly to fly back up.
