I also don’t quite like this situation.
Given that there’s absolutely no urgency for them to access star boundary, seems absolutely stupid for him to enter at 2nd stage.
Also, given that they know the significance of the new qi (they already know the difference between yuan, true and saint) it seems extraordinarily stupid for them to venture forth before full conversion.
The better story line would have them separated by the disruption of the star corridor whilst they were transforming their qi since that was something they didn’t know.
The smarter storyline would have included this background knowledge since it makes absolutely no sense for yangyan not to explain the situation clearly in anticipation of yk’s eventual transit.
