The clothes they are wearing is basically treasure armor.
It would be equivalent to modern day 100k bulletproof suits like in the John Wick movies.
Completely normal for high society, defence against random slips and falls or bumping into a drunk person holding a knife, shrapnel from an explosion, jumping through a glass window… etc…
Except they wear more and easily removable multiple layers.
In case you get splashed acid or set on fire etc, can remove and toss outermost later to get rid of it.
The design usually has more breathability, and is woven from alloys & nanofibres with breathability, as well as the ability to channel their qi into their clothes to shield themselves, and have rune arrays with built in self cleaning functions more advanced than “back to the future 2” jacket.
Just because they don’t mention it because they treat it as totally normal common sense…
