Okay so open heaven is divided in 9 ranks, the higher the better so yang kai wants to achieve 7 rank OH so that he can achieve 9 rank in the future because you can only advance 2 ranks Max so if for example he were to achieve 5 rank OH he would only be able to achieve 7 rank OH MAX unless he use other 3 means to achieve a rank past the 2 rank limit, also if you were to get 6 materials that are all 9 rank and at the end for the last element you would use a rank 1 material then you would only achieve 1 rank OH.
