Quickly reminder for all the idiots that reach here: Yang kai flee the 2 combined forces of 2 of the 8 great families. Middle flee he falls in the middle of the evil faction territory in the arms of one of the kings. He proceeds to become friendly (more then this) with the queen so now staying with her is his best shot since he doesnt have a sect anymore and high heaven pavilion disciples are being somewhat persecuted out there (they all flee and are laying low for now) so being part of the “gang” of the queen of the evil faction is actually the best spot for him. He is inside this cave looking for opportunities to become stronger. Thats what he does every single time in all these 4k chapters: thrive to become stronger.
