I think I get it! It mentioned body synchronisation before. That means his real body & Murim body need to be looked after. He was getting weaker because he was weak in the Murim world.
That’s my understanding of the matter, at least.
Also, image the plot twist if that hooded evil fellow pulling the strings was his brother. I mean, he did take the VR helmet off the MC when he was in the Murim world. What if he synced with a powerful body? We also saw him messing with the device, what if he did his research and is messing with it to get more powerful?
This is just a stab in the dark, but if would be a really cool twist!!
