OP is laboring under a number of misconceptions that should be corrected for the record.
Like The Lord of the Rings did for heroic fantasy, MT set the standard for isekai and codified many of it’s tropes, so untalented hacks have been ripping it off as a template ever since. OP’s error is especially poignant, because the original webnovel became popular through its (relatively) competent prose, coherent narrative, and developed, plausible characters — all qualities that subsequent isekai lacked, thereby tarnishing MT’s reputation retroactively. In fact Rudeus is one of the few light novel protagonists who suffers failure and pays for them dearly over the course of his life. Unfortunately MT loses much, perhaps too much, in the conversion to a visual medium to alert manga readers to the difference.
