I can’t help but think of Snape from Harry Potter. Someone who was helping from behind the scenes while suffering the worst reputation, and all by choice.

A little to straight forward, how he was talking to his servant sounded like exposition that would bring everyone not in the know into the loop. I mean she’s smart so he didn’t have to explain everything so thoroughly.

I don’t get why he’d even discuss it in private. “Do not speak of this again, on pain of death” would be the CORRECT response to this idiot.
