I remember reading a story at one point where a guy uses a sentient weapon to exchange his lifespan (he’s immortal, so literally infinite) for raw power to beat a character. There was some build up and the dude realized that while he was continuously getting stronger, he was starting to actually feel the draw from the weapon. (He’d never felt it before because he was immortal so infinity -1 is still infinity.) Then he just keeled over after a still screen of realization.
