His chronic depression is so deep and severe that he can’t have fun and make good memories without having to go to lengths to experience very surprising and almost traumatic events. His mind is very broken. That is the only reason he doesn’t remember anything. Those memories aren’t “fun” enough for him to pay attention. He’s having an inner battle now between his love for Kisaki and his suicidal, depressive mentality.
