The author just retconned his genius.
In the early chapters MC clearly said that he couldnt create smartphones or the fridge since he didnt know how thay operate.
A lot of fans probably complained, about the fact that he suddenly gained knowledge to create outragious devices/vehicles like gundams and helicopters. So he created the narative that he was a genius all along., But no matter what genius, you cant just invent vehivles from scratch with no prior knwoledge, especially if those didnt even exist in your world in the frist place

Suprise to you Author, even Harvard Grads can’t design spacecraft by themselves. It takes a core team of super geniuses surrounded by even more highly talented engineers to pull off.
