I have some criticism to the magic system. The story is great, but the magic system for me breaks immersion when novices can conjure epic level spells. I wish web comics authors had the courage of using magic much more sparingly. conjuring 30-50 magic fire/ice arrows is very powerful. In a magic system that makes sense level 0-10 that should be close to level 7. With a couple of those, a mage could wipe out one century (50 infantry with decent gear). The same power level as bringing a machine gun and some grandees to a medieval setting. Casting these with no casting time, and then in an instant being ready to cast another wolly or be agile to dodge. I would encourage writers to build in drawbacks, incantation times and balance. And what is the deal with 2 battling mages facing of each other with such lethality with no consideration of safety. A battle between mages could be resolved with a battle of wits. One could have a battle between wizards happen in their minds, where they apply measures and countermeasures until one ends up on top and win, and keep it safe. And then maybe visualize it with a magic device (to make it entertaining for the audience). A human being is very fragile, that is why a gun is so dangerous, a small stone with some telekinesis can take a person out, or an ice bullet can be lethal. A physical battle between wizards should if safety is number one be with colored water, feathers, an egg or something non-lethal then if one touches the other one, then the victor is decided. An egg would also show skill in mana control etc…
