He should just tell the maid to shove it, and not bother getting better. Since the maid has to stay until he is ready to take over, he just should never be ready and the maid will have to take care of the girls. Problem solved. Its not like he is getting paid for this so what is his motivation to be excellent, they just need to not die. Any additional help he gives is just bonus.
