From what I understood the boss is dead,
The boss is the monster that guy (the one that seems to be from another world) took control of at some point, most likely after it became a boss and has been controlling it,
When the building fell on him whether he meant for it to happen or not, it also fell on the monster (boss) and killed it, seemingly noticing that, he stayed hidden and waited for them to leave after seeing the boss defeat message then he emerged
The defeated boss is also the one he’s thanking at the end and is shown in the same frame as him saying “I escape by the skin of my teeth.”
