When I look at such scenarios where people forgot their own / local gods by being influenced by some foreigner missionaries or traders I literally feel lucky that despite being under the British rule for 2 freaking centuries , under the Islamists rule for 5 centuries India still preserved it’s culture and heritage along with it’s religious practices.
Infact it’s the country that has stood their centuries with it’s religion and believers of it’s 
own Gods and Goddesses.
