This was a powerful chapter and gave a lot of insight into the MC, and the author… with a typical isekai, the player is taken by force; but in this one, he chooses to leave, so he can escape his painful existence. The underlying theme is that our own personal hell is always worse than someone else’s. No matter how awful the mission is, it’s still better than having to face his own demons. He didn’t just lose his mother, he lost his best friend. It is hard living everyday with endless grief, shame, and hatred. But MC seems to have matured enough to reach acceptance and forgive the person who hurt him so he can move on. If he works at achieving a “perfect play” on his own life with the same gusto that he plays with other peoples lives, he can wipe away his karma and reach zen.
