If your steel is if good quality, folding is completely unnecessary and doesn’t add to the strength of the blade.. on the contrary, folding just adds weak points to the blade if the steel is of good quality..
It originated in the east because they had such poor quality steel, that had many impurities..
Using folding technique while havin good quality materials is just aesthetic
So either the eastern continent has bad materials or they go for aesthetics.. just because they’re folding doesn’t mean their blades are superior..

I find the blacksmithing being incompatible weird. like if he’s legendary at blacksmithing as long as it’s still blacksmithing it shouldn’t be considered a whole different thing. I hope they make it like a subskill thing rather than it effecting the whole skill. it would be like if archery was incompatible all of a sudden cuz they use a slightly different bow or arrow.
