Unless those meat trees are a miracle from God, you can always grow more and when it comes to changing environments to suit their needs, humans are second to none. But even if we have enough meat to thrive throughout the harshest winters, some people will keep eating animals and even people, like the “Master”. All those people have an idea, an idea that needs be buried until historians can debate what kind of poisoning led to their delusions.
