this is actually a very authentic post post on the importance of communication. Nagatoro is dealing with feelings of vulnerability of the first time.

I wouldnt deem it unnecessary. On first look it looks like its a weird ass conflict, but its actually about communication. Being able to showing trust in your partner to the point that you can comfortably tell her/him that you drew something like a nude sketch, puts your partner to ease. Trying to cover and hide things about “small” things will make your relationship crumble slowly. Thats probably the reason why Nagatoro got so sad about this.

I am all for actual relationship issues being encountered and worked through with likable characters, at this point in time 99% of other rom coms just end or the guy is still working up the courage to hold hands
