Gaahh!! Is it a quirk of Asian fiction or is it just sloppy storytelling? Stop it with all the “they,” “them,” etc., and just name it, they, or them! We don’t know anything about them anyway. Just name the pieces of your plot. Even the MacGuffin has at least one name or abstruse reference to it without resorting to this foreshadowing with a billboard stuck in it to “foreshadow” things.
Foreshadowing is supposed to be subtle, not a sledgehammer to the head.
