This lazy author. Idc if he’s trying to “characterize” the MC with this naming nonsense, it’s pathetic. There’s no way an ex-military guy would name a phoenix “chirpy.” Duke, Phil, Pete, or Faragon, or whatever, sure. Maybe even King, but no one I know, no matter how dumb I might think they are, would name a legendary companion Chirpy without his/her voice dripping with 2k tons of syrupy sarcasm.
And were I DMing this adventure, the mom wouldn’t just look at him funny, she’d threaten him with bodily harm and a mother’s wrath if he didn’t take it back immediately and be serious about it.
C’mon I dislike this trope of mc giving horrible names… Usually it is palatable but him naming a legendary Phoenix chirpy should be a crime
