Rebirth: City Deity - Chapter 34

My interpretation of the saying is. If one person is enjoying tea alone, they get to enjoy the tea and admire it, have full control over the ambience of the tea. Two people enjoy the tea and they can converse peacefully while they enjoy it. Three people, you’re focused on neither the conversation nor the tea, so it’s not a personal conversation, nor are you able to completely enjoy the tea. So you’re sipping on the tea while you all make small talk or you’re sipping tea while waiting for someone to bring up a conversation. And any more people, the tea isn’t the focus, it’s nothing more than a tea shop, too distracted to enjoy the tea.

Like at a cafe, when you go alone, you’re either focused on the drink or yourself. Go there as a pair, you’re focused on the other person but you can enjoy your drink. When you go as a group,the drink is nothing but something in a background. If you focus on the drink alone, you’re ignoring everyone and outcast yourself. If everyone is focused on their drinks, you’re all sitting in silence, and there wasn’t any point in going there as a group. Trying to focus on both, is too chaotic, unless you have one topic and everyone just agrees, otherwise the moment someone offers a different opinion, there will be a clashing of ideas, and you have to choose a side.

But really, the best quality leaves, are seeped in smaller quantities, and you focus more on the natural taste, and is an insult to add anything to it. Which also mean the more people you share it with, the more diluted it becomes, which makes it harder to focus on the original flavor.
