what I don’t understand is are the 2 master’s that stayed behind not actually master’s or is mc becoming op to quickly because I get defeating a pampered young heir to a merchant group and possibly a disciple of a master of an unorthodox sect, but he also took out a group a second-rate assassin that the 2 master’s couldn’t plus when one of those master’s brings up the disciple who was behind the group extorting his clan that he killed and acted like that persons strength was far beyond what he himself could handle.

If the merchant witch was thinking strategically, she should have attacked the main base simultaneously to seize the gold he recently acquired while MC and all the strongest elders were away. It could also force MC’s hand to hesitate a bit and choose between the gold and his siblings, which would buy some time for the attack on the siblings.
