i don’t understand the author’s point with the last couple of chapters other than to give the impression of yulian being stupid and unfit to lead. Even though he knew enough to be “politically savvy” and not kill the prince for assaulting his pregnant wife, he has no idea how people in the Empire view people from the desert and doesn’t know that people judge him by how he looks. Has no concept of money or idea of the value of trade goods, but his tribe has been doing business with the empire for a long time. sell stones to get money, but doesn’t have a concept of the value of money and not concerned enough about the money to do the research ahead of time to get a fair price for them from a reputable merchant. Doesn’t even ask the ambassador to recommend a place for him to do business because he might bet cheated. Then, even though he needed to sell the stones for money, he didn’t really want/need the money because he let some random kid take it and didn’t try to get it back. Then, even though he let the kid keep the money, he didn’t stop the kid from getting robbed by his “dad.” he beat up the “dad” for hitting the kid, but didn’t care if the “dad” gave the kid the money back, fed the kid, or anything else. Just don’t beat the kid anymore. So, it ends up that he sold the stones so that the “dad” and his buddies can get drunk.
He should have just fed all those stones to Dirik. At least then someone would have truly appreciated and used them in a worthwhile manner.
