The manga handles Charlotte way better than the light novel does. In the LN she’s just a slave and Ars buys her for 5 silver. She puts up no resistance to becoming a retainer, threatens to flash Ars to prove she’s a girl, she’s way more vocal about how pretty she is, and she’s one of those emotionless trope characters. Also, neat little tidbit the manga completely ignored for some reason, she’s left-handed
