War is only half the problem, noble caste systems have built in limits on trade, due to how nobles divide labor. You got to bring in printing and education, to teach the masses, so you can fill the needs of a region by the skills of the individuals thierin.
Value is moot without need, a stable economy favors need IE skill over value. As grift, deception and gambling skills, are unstable at best, and just offer bad economic footing.
