So the pacing is bad, and it’s too sweet.
How would i fix this?
I would slow the pacing down, and i would do this by having some conspiracies in the background that get revealed to the reader.
For example, MC is a barrier mage, those are rare, so the PM and the rest of the royal family wants to keep him in the kingdom. More importantly, he is technically the last surviving noble of the juke kingdom. That’s a lot of unclaimed land. By marrying off MC to the princess they gain a barrier mage AND a legal claim to that land. Have the PM note his idiotic nature and have them conspire to exploit it.
With a little bit of world building intrigue a meh story can become a slightly less meh story.
