“that laser should exceed the speed of sound” is like saying “that commercial jetliner should exceed the speed of a garden snail”, except it’s more than 1 full order of magnitude worse than that.
The speed of light is 880,000 times faster than the speed of sound. By comparison, a commercial jetliner travels at 900 km/hr while a garden snail moves at roughly 47 m/hr, meaning that the jetliner is only moving roughly 20,000 times faster than the snail. That means that the ratio between the speed of light and the speed of sound is still roughly 44x larger than the ratio between the speed of a jetliner and the speed of a garden snail.
