Can’t force me to feel empathy for a random character who will only appear for 2 chapters, please. Completely unnecessary to the plot, it adds nothing to the evil we already knew that gang was.
Maybe if they had introduced the character from the beginning. If the protagonist had known him personally and gotten along with him despite that nobody else wanted and then this had happened to him,and the mc finding out that he himself has to kill the troll who in that case would have been a friend, maybe it would have worked.
