So his 5th death was because this person stole part of his power, reducing his strength advantage over his eternal enemy? I forgot everything about him, but he truly is an enemy that needs to die before he does something insane, him being able to challenge the past MC with a technique that was only 30% completed is kinda astonishing. Would absorbing 10 000 people have turned him into an even more evil and dangerous being than the MC? Who would have stopped him at that point? 
That said, did the MC fake his potential? He was rank 2 10 years ago in terms of swordsmanship, so rank 3 magic potential won’t increase his strength at all, especially if he already attained rank 1 swordsmanship.
