if the old guy really did betray her, its not a very smart thing to do. Then again, this is a chinese manhua. Chinese authors tend not to have any intelligent villains. They do try to make their villains intelligent, but their villains dont make realistic decisions. In this case, if he was trying to betray her, he did it in a stupid way. I mean, they’re in an E-Rank dungeon, mostly used by novices. She’s apparantly an Intermediate. Its very unlikely for an intermediate to be killed in an E-Rank dungeon.
