I don’t get why he doesn’t go up stairs and meet them either in the boss room or rendezvous there. He obviously is worried something will crop up, like in the 10th floor boss fight (probably a good expectation). I just assumed that the person they picked up was a plant (Claude’s traitorous/possessed sorta sister).
