The short conversation between him and his wife was “great”.
She has anaesthetised her son beforehand so that he wouldn’t notice anything.
I’m probably wrong, but I think when she said “I’m so glad I married you” and then gave her son a quick hug (without a knife!), she meant it.
But in the end she decided in favour of her task/purpose.
