Would be hurtful if his wife was diagnosed with a long term fatal disease so she’s trying to distance herself due to that so the husband wont be so hurt? Just a theory

The author is not good at figuring things. It was established that that time does not pass in Japan while he is in isekai. Anything that is expensive because it takes time is a potential gold mine; grow cannabis, or horseshoe crabs (cultivation skill!); age whiskey or wine; be a freelance accountant. Store nuclear waste and make billions of yen for each trip with the cart.
But more ridiculous is the failure to understand the difference in purchasing power between worlds. Why would you go to Japan to buy handcrafted luxury goods? A cartload of mass produced consumer goods is a load of exotic luxury items in isekai. That’s way more valuable than a single tea set, even if it is better in quality than any isekai pottery. Conversely, a few marks is worth a day’s wage in isekai, but they’re converting it to a few minutes worth of yen. It’s insanely poor management. They could be bringing a cartload of handcrafts, like blankets and pottery, that would easily allow them to quit their jobs and just be “importers of foreign goods”. If you have to bring cash, bring it in gems and precious metals, that won’t lose their value by conversion.
It’s a lovely wish fulfillment story (with the weird background noise of the unhappy marriage) but this is distractingly awful development. I hope I can push the noise to the back of my head enough to keep enjoying it.
