I had a teacher very similar to this in high school. He was the biggest hard ass in the world during class, but any time after that (free periods or after school at least) he was genuinely the nicest and most helpful person around.
hell he actually acted almost like a guidance councilor for me during my senior year. Got a kickass job thanks to him helping me with my resume and references.
