Buddha was a figure that made people come in thousands to follow him. He said “if you meet Buddha on the road, kill him”.
The meaning being that no one, not even Buddha himself should be an idol elevated higher than other humans, than yourself.
Wanting a king is wanting a leader, a parent so that I do not need to be responsible for myself. It is someone to project trust and resentment towards. It is asking someone to be more that themselves, to be perfect, to be almighty, godlike.
They have had a kind of anarchy or group leadership. Asking, wanting a king or even an idol, a flag seems to me to be unwise. This author is fantastic, always surprising me with being more clever, more wise than any other story in this genre so I am intrigued and curious where they will take this. And if they will make it a good or a bad choice.
