Nah, seriously. From a excellent start to end up like this? It felt like the author was either force by the company or trying to milk the novel by forcibly extending the arc with useless things. It was already on good pace up to the point that the MC obtain the winter, but using this old man to extend the arc was kinda stupid. Like you make the MC being overpowered just to end up getting troubled by weaklings
