From the beginning (easier to see if you read it all at once), Elric’s magic evolves something like this: Blockage. Discovers the lair, learns dragon tongue, this unlocks soul speak. Gains power of dragon heart, sudden surge lets him absorb Mephistopheles’ seal. He now can now absorb demonic energy to boost his own magic energy, as well as use the dragon heart and soul speak for magic. He finds the cabin left by Otto, finds books that let him cure his blockage (likely aided by his already powerful gains). He learns how to use the power of the seals from Otto. Soon after he becomes August’s apprentice. He learns magical martial arts, as well as beastman body strengthening arts. Learns how to forcefully absorb demon seals from his encounter with Yu. Learns Mirage Eyes from beast tamer king. Absorbs a bunch more demon energy. Apart from any other offscreen gains he may have had, that’s about it for anyone confused

I thought Elric could only use magic because of the dragon’s heart and not the seals, given that mana is stored in the heart in most stories. So the dragon heart would replace his actual heart removing the blockage disease
